Fabulous Flower Baskets
This is a special project that my daughter looks forward to every spring. These Flower Garden Baskets are great gifts for Easter, Mothers’ Day, or hostesses, and cost less than $10 to make!
They are so much fun to make with kids because they are foolproof and allow kids to really shine their inner gardener light by planting their very own basket! We always gift them to grandparents for Easter, but this year Autumn loves making them so much we are making them for cousins too! Another great thing - these flower baskets cost under $10 each and all the flowers can be replanted for continuous enjoyment!
How to make your Flower Basket
You Will Need
Baskets
Contractor bag or heavy trash bag
Potting soil
Flowers (bulbs or pansy)
Peat moss (available at your gardening/landscaping store)
Be sure to use bulb plants or hearty pansies so the plants can be repotted for summer-long enjoyment.
Steps
Line the basket with the plastic. Try to fold the endless under so they don't hang over the basket sides.
Separate your bulb plants and prepare for planting. We got one small container of daffodils for $3.99 which yielded 6 sets of big flowering bulbs. Don't worry, you won't break the flowers. Just separate from the base of the stems but don't split the bulb.
Now pile in the soil. Try not to drop soil between the plastic liner and basket. Some people may use this as a table piece so keep the baskets free from soil.
Here's the fun part...work with your little farm friend to plant the flowers where they wish.
Firmly press down on the soil so the base of all bulbs/flowers are set and then use moss to cover the ends of the basket where the contractor plastic can be seen. We also add decorated eggs and Easter cards to ours too!
Have so much fun getting your hands dirty!
